This action plan builds on the momentum and spirit of the 2014 World Conference on Indigenous Peoples and to this end will promote partnership and collaboration between the UN system, civil society organizations, and multilateral bodies such as regional development banks and human rights special procedures and commissions.

The 2030 Agenda’s pledge to leave no one behind demands that progress towards the Agenda’s goals and targets be faster among the most disadvantaged social groups.

Suriname ratified the Convention on 29 March 2017, bringing the total number of States Parties to the CRPD to 173.

UNITED NATIONS, 27 March 2017 – The Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, an expert body of the United Nations, welcomed the focus on the empowerment of Indigenous women at the 61^st session of the Commission on the Status of Women, held at UN Headquarters in New York from 13 to 24 March.

The President of the 71st Session of the General Assembly will organize the next “consultation on the participation of Indigenous Peoples’ representatives and institutions in relevant United Nations meetings on issues affecting them”, during the upcoming Permanent Forum.
