Building an Inclusive World

The world is facing deepening inequalities, demographic shifts, and rapid technological and environmental changes. Progress toward inclusive social development is uneven, leaving many behind. Structural barriers continue to prevent millions from accessing opportunities and essential services, challenging efforts to build cohesive, resilient societies.

But with challenge comes opportunity. The Second World Summit for Social Development provides a crucial platform to rethink social policies and systems, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of a more inclusive world.

The Summit brings together leaders from governments, international organizations, the private sector, civil society, and the UN system at the highest levels. It is a unique space for global dialogue, collaboration, and action—driving transformative policies to promote well-being for all.

  • “This would be an opportunity to hold a different form of global deliberation and to live up to the values, including trust and listening, that underpin the social contract. The Summit outcome could be an update of the 1995 Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development, covering issues such as universal social protection floors, including universal health coverage, adequate housing, education for all and decent work, and give momentum towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”

  • "Some Member States have expressed a legitimate concern about creating new Agendas in the current context, when the task of realizing the SDGs and the Copenhagen commitments is not yet done. This is not the time to change course. Rather, the Social Summit is an opportunity to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the programme of action of the first World Summit for Social Development, five years ahead of 2030."

  • "Societies built on inclusion, social justice and solidarity can more easily scale up investments in policies advancing social progress.Meaningful consultation with stakeholders, especially marginalized populations, on policy design, implementation and follow-up, is critical. This Summit must deliver not just a declaration, but a concrete action plan with clear timelines, responsibilities, and monitoring mechanisms."
