Expo 2020 celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities and works towards more inclusive world

Underscoring the importance of leaving no one behind, Expo 2020 Dubai is marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December with a flagship event located at the Nexus for People and Planet venue, exploring issues such as inclusive accessibility, education, decent work, innovation and technology, and sport.

Regional workshop “Evidence-based ageing-related policies in sub-Saharan Africa”

UN DESA organized a workshop in Lake Naivasha, Kenya, 16-18 November 2021 in collaboration with the Government of Kenya. The workshop was a capacity building exercise aimed at policy makers, civil society representatives and researchers, especially those working on ageing-related issues or in older persons-led organizations and provided a forum for the exchange of experience, latest research and substantive knowledge of ageing policies, mainstreaming older persons in sectoral policies and modalities of the fourth review and appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing.

Indigenous Peoples’ Autonomies and Self-Governance: Regional Dialogue for Asia

On Friday 17 December, the Permanent Forum will organize a regional dialogue on Indigenous Peoples’ autonomy and self-governance in Asia supported by the Indigenous Peoples and Development Branch, Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

It will take place at 7am (US EST) / 7 pm (Bangkok, Thailand) / 8pm (Beijing, China) and moderated by Mr. Gam A. Shimray Secretary General, Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP). Speakers are Beverly Longid (Philippines)  Prof. Virginius Xaxa (India) and Banshi R. Chaudhary (Nepal).

Every year, the Indigenous Peoples and Development Branch / Secretariat for the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues within the Division for Inclusive Social Development of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs organizes an international expert group meeting (EGM) on a theme identified by the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and endorsed by the Economic and Social Council.
