Statement by the Chairperson of the Permanent Forum on the eviction of Maasai people from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Tanzania

The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues expresses its profound concern over ongoing efforts to evict over 70,000 Maasai people of Loliondo division of the Ngorongoro district of Tanzania from the 1,500 square kilometers, which are legally registered village lands.

Building disability-inclusive societies in the COVID context and beyond

The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), designated as 15 June, was initiated by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA) in 2006, and recognized as a United Nations Day by the General Assembly in its resolution A/RES/66/127 adopted in 2011.

According to WHO estimates, 1 in 6 people over 60 years of age suffers from abuse. That means nearly 141 million people globally. This number may be much higher as neglect, abuse and violence of older people are among the most hidden and underrepresented violations of human rights.

International Day of Cooperatives 2022: Cooperatives Build a Better World

On July 2, cooperatives all around the world will celebrate the 100th International Day of Cooperatives (#CoopsDay). 15th Conference of States Parties to the CRPD (COSP15), 14-16 June 2022

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was adopted by the General Assembly by its resolution 61/106 of 13 December 2006. It came into force on 3 May 2008 upon the 20th ratification. Article 40 of the Convention stipulates that “The States Parties shall meet regularly in a Conference of States Parties in order to consider any matter with regard to the implementation of the present Convention.” Since 2008, 14 sessions of the Conference of States Parties have been held at United Nations Headquarters, New York.

Final Report on the 60th Commission for Social Development – CSocD60

The sixtieth session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD60) was held on 17 February 2021 and from 7 to 16 February 2022. Taking into account the prevailing conditions relating to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the Commission was convened in a hybrid format, with its opening and closing meetings held in person and its general discussion and panel discussions held virtually.
