his year marks the 20-year milestone of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, a landmark agreement in which Governments committed to “building a society for all ages”. The Madrid Plan of Action contains a broad range of objectives, including that of reducing poverty among older persons.
GA Third Committee approves resolution “Rights of Indigenous Peoples”
On 12 November, the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (Third Committee), of the 76th session of the General Assembly discussed Rights of Indigenous Peoples [item 71(a)].
The Committee took up the draft resolution “Rights of indigenous peoples” (document A/C.3/76/L.22/Rev.1).

International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) 2022
The theme this year is “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world“.
The annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on 3 December was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.

Both the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the World Summit for Social Development are committed to seeking lasting solutions to eradicating poverty, creating full employment and decent work for all, and building more inclusive societies.
International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, 17 October 2022
Dignity for all in practice is the umbrella theme of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty for 2022-2023. The dignity of the human being is not only a fundamental right in itself but constitutes the basis of all other fundamental rights. The 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights enshrined human dignity in its preamble:
‘Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.’
Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Transformation
DISD/UN DESA with ODI Nexus and SIDA organized a panel discussion on how developing countries can transform their economies in an inclusive way, within planetary boundaries.
Panelists shared lessons from countries that have successfully integrated the economic, social and environmental dimensions, and explore ways to strengthen “nexus” thinking and policy making.
