The theme for the 2016 International Day of Cooperatives (IDC) is ‘Cooperatives: The power to act for a sustainable future’.

As part of its 2016 activities for the International Day of Cooperatives (IDC), COPAC is hosting a photo exhibition at United Nations Headquarters in New York City from 4-20 July 2016, during the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. Photos selected for the exhibition will be viewed by the many visitors to the UN during this important political event, and be included in an exhibition book distributed to key cooperative stakeholders.

Sri Lanka ratified the Convention on 8 February 2016, bringing the total number of States Parties to the CRPD to 162.

Working towards universal ratification and implementation of the CRPD:

On Thursday, 21 April 2016 at United Nations Headquarters in New York, the President of the UN General Assembly H.E. Mogens Lykketoft will convene a High-level Thematic Debate on Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to support prompt and inclusive implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

Nominations to the UNPFII 2017-19

The ECOSOC Youth forum, 1-2 February 2016, will discuss ways in which young people can play an active role in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It will also address how the youth can best communicate on the Agenda, bringing on board the innovative use of social media and communication tools. The 54th Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD54) will take place from 3 to 12 February 2016 at United Nations Headquarters in New York under the priority theme “Rethinking and strengthening social development in the contemporary world”.

The Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) is the focal point on developing a global indicator framework for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the corresponding targets.
