International Day of Families, 15 May 2018
The 2018 annual observance of the International Day of Families with a theme “Families and inclusive societies” will explore the role of families and family policies in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 16 in terms of Promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development. The event is open to the public and will be held on 15 May, 1:15 – 2:30 at UN Headquarters in New York.

Implementation of the objectives of IYF and its follow-up processes, 21 November 2018
The present report on the "Implementation of the objectives of the International Year of the Family and its follow-up processes" is submitted in response to General Assembly resolution 71/163. The report focuses on recent initiatives towards the implementation of the objectives of the International Year of the Family and its follow-up processes by Member States, United Nations entities and civil society. The report aims to contribute to the systematic exchange of good practices in family policymaking.
ECOSOC Youth Forum to be held at the end of January
The ECOSOC Youth Forum, which has been held annually since 2012, will take place from the 30th to the 31st of January in New York under the title “The role of youth in building sustainable and resilient urban and rural communities”. The aim of the forum is to bring youth into discussions with government representatives, youth delegates, policymakers and other relevant stakeholders in civil society and the private sector about the 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development.

Universal social protection is a potent development policy tool that can alleviate poverty, inequality and social exclusion. Few countries have been able to reduce poverty and improve living conditions on a broad scale without comprehensive social protection systems in place.
