Youth Flash May 2015

This issue of Youth Flash features the article "Pine Nuts Are The People: Indigenous Youths’ Protection of Traditional Foods” written by E'Sha Hoferer, a member of the Agai Diccutta Numu (Trout Eater People), also known as the Walker River Paiute Tribe in Schurz, Nevada.

His goal is to raise awareness for and counteract the destruction of indigenous lands and cultures, specifically the destruction of pinon pine nut trees. These trees act as both a symbol of Hoferer’s culture as well as an actual source of nutrition for his community.
