The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) would like to invite national, regional and local governments, civil society organizations, UN entities, service providers for people experiencing homelessness, private and public housing providers, researchers and other actors to contribute to the forthcoming Report on “Inclusive policies and programs to address homelessness, including in the aftermath of COVID-19”, which will be presented by the UN Secretary General to the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly in 2023.
The report is part of the implementation of the resolution on the same topic which was successfully tabled by Algeria, Djibouti, Madagascar and Senegal on behalf of the African Group and adopted by consensus in January 2022 at the General Assembly.
The report will in fact identify the progress that has been achieved and challenges that remain in the implementation of inclusive policies and programmes to address homelessness. Those include recommendations for possible indicators on social protection and access for all to adequate, safe and affordable housing in the aftermath of COVID-19.
Additionally, it will explore how homelessness is understood and manifests in diverse economic, social, and cultural context. It will aim to consolidate research on existing policies and strategies, highlight good practice, develop an up-to-date gap analysis, and provide governments with recommendations. It will also seek to identify and understand less visible experiences of homelessness, particularly where it intersects with gender, sexual orientation, indigenous and migratory experiences and disability.
Contributions to the report can be made via a questionnaire available in English, French and Spanish. Deadline for submissions is March 5th, 2023. Contributions can be submitted to @email.
In March, open online regional consultations will also be organized to gather partners who wish to share additional information or strengthen and deepen discussion around priorities and recommendation. Information on how to participate will be made available in due time.
